Real ak-47

Real ak-47

Soviet AK-47 “Kalashnikov” Assault Rifle. This example is a DEWAT (De-activated war trophy), with solid cast aluminum receiver. It cannot fire or chamber ammunition but it is the exact weight, shape and size of an operative model.
This particular model was obtained by a dealer who specializes in weapons and equipment from the Vietnam War. This example was most likely used by either NVA or Viet Cong forces. It differs slightly from the main line Soviet assault rifle.

Designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov, a former NCO armor commander, this weapon practically became a symbol of the Soviet Union during the Cold War. The gun was fired from a closed bolt on one of two settings, either automatic or semi-automatic, and was fed via a 30 round box magazine. The AK47 works by tapping gas off from the barrel, striking it on a piston, which is housed in the cylinder above the barrel. The piston takes with it the rotating bolt, being pushed forward again by the action of the coiled recoil spring at the proper time. The AK47 was an excellent assault rifle, producing little if any vibration when fired on full automatic. This made it a very accurate weapon at ranges up to 300 meters. The AK47 Assault rifle was fully adopted by the Soviet army in 1951.
